How to reduce a GPX file

  1. Open the GPX file.
  2. Choose a maximum number of points (e.g. 500 for older Garmins) or an accuracy in metres.
  3. Compare the result (red) with the original (blue) on the map, plus points, file size and maximum deviation.
  4. Download the reduced file.

How does it work?

GPX-Werkstatt uses the Douglas–Peucker algorithm: points lying almost on a straight line between their neighbours are removed, while curves and junctions are kept.
