Create an elevation profile
Turn any GPX file into an interactive elevation profile with gradients, elevation gain and hiking time. If elevation data is missing or GPS altitudes are inaccurate, GPX-Werkstatt recalculates them from a digital terrain model.

Elevation profile
How to create an elevation profile
- Open a GPX file (or KML, FIT, TCX …).
- Move over the profile to see distance, elevation and gradient at every point – it is highlighted on the map at the same time.
- Missing elevations or unrealistic elevation gain? Click “Calculate elevations”.
- Save the profile as an image or as a CSV table – or download the track with the new elevations.
Why is elevation gain often wrong?
GPS measures altitude much less accurately than position – errors of 10–20 metres are normal, and many small fluctuations add up. GPX-Werkstatt filters out changes below 4 metres, and the terrain model gives even more realistic values.
